Breastfeeding Photo Project: Call for Nursing Moms

With all this breastfeeding talk happening on the internets this week, a little idea has popped into my mind and it won't go away.

I want to do a breastfeeding photo project. This may have been done before but that's ok, because obviously we still aren't seeing enough breastfeeding in our culture. So here's my plan...

I need breastfeeding moms willing to be photographed. Your child can be any age. I want to photograph you nursing in your own environment or a place you would typically nurse. That could be your home, the park, the mall, etc.

I want these photos to be beautiful and accurate portrayals of breastfeeding. If you use a cover, great. If you don't, great. I'm not looking for anything in particular other than moms giving their children the best nature has to offer.

I live in Salt Lake City and am willing to travel about an hour in any direction to do these photo shoots. In exchange for your time, I will give you one high resolution digital file of your choice from the shoot. Additional digital files and prints will be available for purchase.

I don't know yet how far this project will go or what the end result will be. I'll take it one shoot at a time and see what happens. I also have no time limit on this, but seeing as how I'm due to have a baby in less than 3 months, I would like to do as many shoots as I can before then.

back in the saddle

Today for the first time in about 2 months, I actually loaded the photos from my camera to my computer and played around in photoshop. It had been so long, I felt rusty. It feels really good to be motivated to be creative again. I haven't taken many pictures in the past couple months as I've fought off the pregnancy nausea, but I am ready to get back in the saddle again.

This photo of Grace is from a day a couple weeks ago when we took the kids sledding at Sugar House park. I haven't finished going through the rest of the photos from that day, but this one is my favorite. I had fun trying out some of my new Eye Candy Actions (one of my christmas gifts). I also used a few of PW's actions.

I need to just give another shout out to being done with the first trimester! I am so happy to be feeling like myself again instead of the blah Katrina I was for a couple months. More photos and regular posting to come!

I took pictures of my dad the surgeon at work. The pictures are going to be used for a brochure.



And Asher had a whole lot of fun banging on the newly tuned piano.

All summer I've been meaning to get pictures of the kids and somehow get one of all us. We were going to do it when we were with my family, but Asher wasn't cooperating. Then my friend Danielle was going to take a few but we couldn't get our schedules coordinated. Finally on Friday some friends came over for dinner and were willing to snap a few pics of all of us together. Earlier I had taken some of the kids. We were very short on time, so they aren't perfect. But we managed to get something Christmas Card and picture wall worthy. These were all taken in our backyard.

The wedding I photographed on Saturday was of the little sister of my freshman roommate, Crystal. Two other friends from freshman year, Tiffany and Alicia, were at the wedding as well. I haven't seen these girls in 4 or 5 years probably. It was great to catch up!

As a sidenote, they aren't all super tall. They just all had heels on and I had flats on because I had to be comfy while I worked. Um, also, I am wearing a maternity dress for the same reason. So comfy. Not pregnant, just practical. It doesn't really look maternity, I swear.

And this is just a picture of some of the temple ground flowers. The grounds at all the temples are so gorgeous, especially this time of year.

Saturday I photographed a wedding and left Asher at home with daddy for over 8 hours. It was the longest we had ever spent away from each other! We both survived. Asher wasn't even crazy to nurse when I got home which surprised me. Although I don't enjoy being gone from him for that long, it's good to know that I can be if needed.

I've just barely begun the process of going through photos from the wedding, but there are few over on my photo blog of the beautiful bride.

There are also some photos of my little brother Nick. I took his senior portraits last month.

new lens

I ordered a new lens earlier this week and it arrived this morning. I'm excited to use it more, but I did go out and shoot a few pics of my roses this morning. So far so good. I got the Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8. I would have loved to get the fancier Nikon version or several other Nikon lenses, but this one was WAY more in my budget. I got it because I need a zoom lens that I can keep on my camera and still get most of the shots I need. The lens that came with my camera (Nikon's 18-105 mm) has the zoom range, but does not open up wide enough and so isn't great indoors and doesn't give that great shallow depth of field I like. I'm shooting a wedding tomorrow so we'll see how this lens does. I'm excited.

I did a shoot at the Ogden's Union Station a couple weeks ago.
The trains are SO cool! I couldn't believe how big some of them are.
If you have kids, or even if you don't, it's worth going to see the trains. You can even climb on and go inside some of them.

roses, roses, roses

Have I mentioned how much I love having roses in my backyard?
The sun was shining through this one so beautifully the other day.
I couldn't decide which picture I liked best, so you get 4.

The color of these purple ones is just amazing.
And I love the blue and green background here.

This beauty is from a yard in our neighborhood we discovered on a walk to playgroup a couple weeks ago.

The roses are still blooming, so expect more photos.
I can't help it.
I think it's a compulsion.

roses are back

Are you sick of flower pics yet? Obviously, I'm not.
All of my beautiful roses died, the bushes were pruned (thanks to my Auntie), and now we are on round two.
This is the first of the roses to bloom again last week.
Don't you worry, there are more photos where these came from.

Also, I'm just a lazy blogger these days, and already edited images are easy to post.
I know today should be dedicated to an Independence Day recap. But we actually didn't do much. We didn't have the older kids and my plans of going to the Farmer's Market and Costco didn't quite work out. (Farmer's Market insanely busy and Costco closed.) Instead we made a quick Home Depot run, Jared took a few wrong turns, and we mostly hung out at home. By the time it was fireworks time, Asher needed to go to bed. But lucky for us, there is a nice little spot on our lawn where you can see between the trees and catch most of SLC's fireworks show.

Was anyone else sorely disappointed by the not-so-grand Grand Finale?

All good things must come to an end and so does flower week here at Musings of a Redhead. ;-)
I'm sure there will be more flower pics as I just love to photograph them, but here are the rest of what I have taken since we moved. I am so grateful to be surrounded by such beauty!
