bishop's score

I had another doctor's appointment today. Nothing too eventful other than that I gained another two pounds. I am packin it on here at the end. Dr. S didn't even check my cervix today which is fine with me. If it was the same as it was last week after all the contractions and such I've had I'd have been depressed, so better not to know.

After the appointment we hit up Costco to stock up on foodstuffs. I figure we won't be making it back there for awhile so we kinda went all out. We pretty much bought our weight in cereal. I had some good contractions while pushing that heavy cart around and more since we've been home. Fortunately, I haven't had the crazy cramps so that's nice.

Anyway, back to the point of this post. In pregnancy books you read about the Bishop's Score. It is a scoring system used to determine whether labor is likely to start spontaneously and how likely an induction is to work. I was curious what mine would be so I found this chart and figured it out.

Based on my last cervical exam, which was last Tuesday at the hospital, my bishop's score is an 11 or 12. Guess what the highest possible score is? 13! So pretty much I'm basically in labor. Any guesses as to when this kid is gonna make his appearance?

  1. Hi, Just ran across your blog. I'm 37 weeks too -- or at least that's what the doctor says, the date is uncertain, and I tend to think it is a bit further along. At the last visit, they agreed. I have those "crazy cramps" too. I never had them with my son (14 now), and so a lot of times I will have them and think, "this is it", but so far it has not been. Good Luck!!! Jenn

  3. Oh, how exciting. I'm going to guess you will have the baby on Saturday. I'm not ever right about this stuff - probably way off. Take care of yourself. Can't wait to see you little darling! Kellan

  5. I'm terrible at guessing but I say July 22. I can't wait to see baby Asher.

And after 3 pregnancies I still have never heard of a bishops score until this post. lol

  6. When is the full moon? Any storms coming your way? I went into labor twice when a low-pressure storm system came into town. Good luck! :)

  7. Hi, Katrina...it's Joan :)
So, did you end up taking a hypnobirthing class? I know you were interested at one point...how are you feeling about the birth in general? Do you feel prepared, safe, excited or more apprehensive, unsure?
I will send positive birth vibes your way :)
My advice is to let it go as much as possible. Attempt not to let the birth consume your thoughts (I know, that is ridiculous) and your body will relax and do what it needs to to get baby here. It is amazing that our bodies birth without any help from us. In fact, the best births are those of women who let go and let their bodies do what they are made to do as challenging as that may be.
All My Best, Katrina. Can't wait to meet your tender little Asher.

  8. What a long trick he's been playing on you, maybe he'll be a prankster. Go to a movie, go sit in starbucks in a borders store and just read--those are the two situations I've witnessed people doing lately and I think, who can do that? Oh, people who don't have kids or jobs...so very few (at least the starbucks one).
