pregnant "man"?

This is some crazy stuff! If you can, watch Oprah today. It is about Thomas, a man who used to be a woman and who is pregnant! Here is the link to Oprah's website where they explain it all. Thomas took hormones for years to transition into a man. He is legally a man. He is married to a woman. But he kept his reproductive organs. His wife had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis so when they decided they wanted children, he got pregnant with the help of a sperm donor! Talk about strange--seeing a person who looks very much like a man pregnant!

  3. Yeah, so I saw the article and was grossed out. Then saw the thing about him coming onto Oprah. I wanted to watch it but couldn't. Jake thinks it was a way to exploit "weird ____ people" and giving them a platform. My curiosity still wanted to see it.

We had an absolutely hysterical conversation trying to figure out how "he-she" got pregnant. I very much wish it was recorded. "No, HE has the equipment because HE is a SHE and has the internal plumbing."

Seriously, genders shouldn't be messed with.

  6. really? I think its sweet. without even going into my belief that gender is an illusion, let's just think of everything that couple has gone through to date - gender transistion is NOT an easy thing to undergo, and neither is a hysterectomy...they've been given a chance to have biological offspring when I'm sure it seemed like there was no hope at all.
For that, I'm happy for them.

  7. you should read about this one: http://www.malepregnancy.com/

apparently he's an actual born male who is currently pregnant and due in july. the doctors "induced an ectopic pregnancy by implanting an embryo and placenta into the abdominal cavity." so weird.

and i kind of agree with her. yes, it's weird, and yes gender should not be messed with, and no, i don't support the transsexual lifestyle...but i can't help wishing them the best. they want a baby so badly and i'm sure they'll be the best parents they can be.

  8. Jen, don't think that one's real. Check this out:

  9. I watched the show yesterday and it was fascinating! The couple was so in love with each other, and that will be a well-loved baby.

I find the arguments about not messing with gender quite interesting. There are all kinds of in utero mishaps that we fix, and no one seems to have an issue with it. Who's to say that the testosterone "switch" that didn't get "flipped" wasn't just another in utero error that is now being corrected?

Congrats on your sealing as well Katrina! And thanks for the explaination about the church and the sealing rules.

  10. Call me a fundamentalist but women were made to have babies. Not men. Yes, this "man" was a woman...but he for some psychological reason or another decided to change that. How is this baby supposed to learn the basic and beautiful differences between men and women if his "dad" is a pseudo man who once was a woman? Think of the confusion, criticism, and ostracism of this baby's peers? I would not be so selfish to bring that baby into the world under such circumstances. There are too many healthy, capable women to create babies. There is absolutely no reason for a man to cross into that realm.
What about all the babies in orphanages suffering? Couldn't this couple consider loving and providing for one of those lost and sad souls?
