there really is a person in my uterus

Well it's officially official. I have heard the heartbeat! Someone is growing in my uterus.

We went to the doctor today and they used the Doppler to listen for the heartbeat. It was beating nice and strong. I thought this would make it feel a lot more real, and it does sorta. But it also still feels very strange to know that a little person is inside me. My abdomen is starting to grow a bit, but I don't look pregnant. Perhaps once I do it will feel more real. Or when I feel the baby for the first time. That will be nice.

The doctor says I am looking and feeling good and my blood test was normal and all that. I go back in 4 weeks and then in March we will have the ultrasound and get to find out if we are having a boy or girl! I'm REALLY excited for that visit!

(btw... isn't that photo amazing! I can't believe how developed a 12 week fetus is! It really is miraculous.)

  1. I'm so excited for you... hearing the heartbeat is amazing, isn't it? In a few months, your husband will be able to hear the baby's heartbeat through your tummy too ;)

  3. How exciting!! I loved those visits - hearing the heartbeat and the sonograms - with all my babies. It does seem hard to believe - in the beginning - it will become more and more real, the more the baby moves and kicks - you are just going to love it!! Take care and so glad to hear that all is going well. Kellan

  4. Congratulations! I was pregnant with my first in Chapel Hill, too!!! Boy, that brings back memories. So long ago... AND I was a 24 year-old redhead, too.
    :-)

    Now I'm a 35 year-old redhead. But I digress.

That's so exciting for you and to be preggers at the same time as Emily. How fun for you!

  5. I think that with every new thing (hearing the heartbeat, seeing the ultrasound, feeling those flutters then kicks) the baby seems at the same time more real and more surreal...it's like..."really, who are you in there". But it's kind of nice to have all those steps so when you finally do meet them (I am guessing) you are ready to really know who they are.

  6. So exciting. You'll definitely feel more pregnant when you show or at least when you start feeling the baby move.

It seems like it goes by so slow the first time around, huh?
