analytics revealed

A few weeks ago I discovered Google Analytics. It's pretty darn amazingly cool. I now have the means of knowing, not only how many people visit my blog, but where they are, how fast their connection is, how long they stayed, what pages they looked at, how they found my blog, etc. It's fun to see that someone in Sweden has checked out my blog, even if they only stayed for 20 seconds.

But all this cyber people watching also made me realize that other people probably have this too. And those people are probably seeing that I check their blogs like 5+ times a day to see if they are updated! Uh oh! I confess, I'm a blog stalker. I sit on a computer all day long at work. I have to pass the time somehow. So yeah, if you have noticed that someone from NC visits your blog an absurd amount... that's me. And thanks for keeping me from going crazy at work.

  1. me too. from two different computers in two different cities, though, so maybe it doesn't look so creepy...?

  2. That really is cool. I use statcounter.com-same idea it sounds like. I too look over and over at blogs to see if there are updates. :)

  3. Yes, I love this tool. I love seeing all the places people live and how many people visit my blog. Take care. Kellan

  4. Haha...I agree I probably look like a stalker as well! But I work from home and need to break up the monotony of being alone all day.

  5. Hmm, can you explain how to make it work in Blogger? I pasted the HTML it gave me into the HTML template view, but it can't find it. Maybe I'm too computer illiterate for this :)

  6. I started doing this too a while back. Then I got bored of looking at IP addresses. And it irritated me to see how many people stopped by but didn't comment!

Funny story: The first day I got the counter I saw that this one person from somewhere around the city I live in was looking at my site a LOT and for long periods of time. It started to freak me out after a few days and I told my husband. He took one look and said,"Um, honey, that's you." Yes, I'm an idiot.

  7. Ha! I love it when people look at my blog over and over - ups my visit counts. I haven't figured out how to tell who one specific person is though - mine doesn't break it down to IP address, although I'm sure there is a way to do that.

Nicki, you know how hilarious I think that is :>

  8. Tia-- Here are the instructions I followed:

The code contained in the text box on the Tracking Status page must be copied and pasted into all of the web pages you will be tracking. It should be added immediately before the "body" tag, and can be added by hand or through the use of templates or includes, if available.

Go to your edit template page then edit html and add the tag near the bottom before the "body". That's what I did.

Nicki-- Oh my goodness! That is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time! Jared and I have been laughing about it all evening. Thanks for sharing! :-)

Sue-- Google analytics doesn't provide IP addresses, if that's what your using. But they give you all the stats which is the fun part anyway.

    Thanks for visiting everyone!

  9. This post totally had me laughing. I found out about tracking who comes to your blog several months ago (probably at the beginning of this year) and I LOVED checking every day to see who came.

Then I realized all my many visits were being traced! ack, I'm not a stalker, I promise...just bored! lol

  10. Hey, I didn't know Google had this. I'll check it out. I've been using Sitemeter for the past couple weeks.

BTW, I lost track of this "new" blog of yours for a while, but now I'm subbed. So talk about stalking . . . !
