new lens and flash

For my birthday my parents got me an external flash (SB-600) and a new lens (50 mm f/1.8). I haven't had a chance to play around with them much but I'm very excited. The above photo was taken in a dark room with the flash bounced off the ceiling. Isn't that amazing? I hate "flashy" looking photos and being able to bounce the light is so great for those times when you don't have natural light available. I can't wait to play around with my lens more too. It's going to be so great for portraits!

  2. Fun! I love being able to bounce the flash off of other surfaces. It made me go from hating to take pictures inside to not minding it at all.

  4. Lucky! First I want an upgrade on my camera. I'm thinking the D90 is a good price point. Then I want anther nice lens (already have the 50mm - it's awesome) then I need to do some looking into that flash! I'm hating taking pictures right now because in my house the lighting isn't great in the winter so I have to be near a window to get a good shot, or else they are are kinda blurry (because I hate using a flash too). Argh, so frustrating. Nice to vent about it though. Really want a new camera. You are a lucky duck to have it all right now!
