playing in vegas

We didn't do much touristy stuff while in Vegas other than go down to the Bellagio to see the flowers and the water show. I'll have those photos another day. It was really nice to just hang out with my sister and enjoy the warmer weather. We also got to go see Jared's aunt and family and his grandparents. Unfortunately I failed to take any photos of that excursion. Silly me.

But here are some of us with my sis...

Asher loved swimming although you can't tell very much by his face in some of these.

Asher arranged this whole little setup himself. He likes to get comfy to read.

Mothers Day 2010

We were in Vegas for Mothers Day at my sister Lauren's. It was a very relaxing day. Lauren made us delicious vegan banana french toast for breakfast. I should have taken a picture. Yum! Then for dinner she made asparagus wrapped in filo dough, roasted sweet potatoes, and blacked spicy tofu. It was good eats.

I made Jared snap a picture of me and my Ash man after church. Is his smile the cutest or what?

These pictures make me laugh. They were taken back to back, but he has such opposite expressions on his face.

And this is just classic funny Asher pretending to sleep on the floor.

33 weeks

With all the radio hoopla, I didn't get this posted earlier this week. I can't believe how close to the end we are getting now. Legally this baby is allowed to make her appearance in just over 3 weeks. (Meaning at 37 weeks my midwife is legally allowed to attend our homebirth.) I highly doubt she'll arrive that soon though. I'm mostly just concerned with getting her head down. The stubborn girl is still breech. We are upping the turning techniques this weekend and calling a chiropractor on Monday. Why do my children insist on drama? I just want a nice boring pregnancy.

my radio debut

First some background on how this happened:

Some of you may not know that I actually have a degree in Broadcast Journalism. I worked for a TV news station for a year as a producer before getting married. One of my friends from college, Alex Kirry, is a host on the Nightside Project here in Salt Lake on KSL. He had seen my posts about the breastfeeding project on facebook, so when they decided to tackle this subject on the show, he asked me if I'd like to come on and give my two cents. I was a little nervous about being the representative of breastfeeding mothers. I'm not a researcher or a lactation consultant. I don't even frequent La Leche League meetings (although I think they are great). I am just a breastfeeding mom who feels passionately about this. And I happened to start a blog on the subject. Which I guess puts me in the role of "advocate" now.

It ended up being really fun. Alex and Ethan are super nice guys. They had to play devil's advocate a bit to keep the discussion lively, so I think they come across as a bit anti-breastfeeding sometimes. I assure you they are not. They are both dads who support breastfeeding. It was fun to hang out with them and chat about this. During the show people can text in comments or call. I was actually surprised by how positive most of them are. Of course some were crazy and ridiculous too.

We had less than an hour to devote to the topic so there is much we couldn't really get into, but I hope I expressed myself clearly enough. And maybe even helped someone out there feel more comfortable with the idea of public breastfeeding.

You can listen to the entire hour here.  The first few minutes are ads and the local news so skip ahead a bit. Sorry if I talk too fast sometimes and use to many "likes". It's been too long since I was in "broadcast" mode.

Dude, I'm gonna be on the radio tonight!

Breastfeeding is in the news.... again. Tomorrow night ABC news is airing a piece about breastfeeding mothers getting harassed for nursing in restaurants. And another mother, this time in Canada, recently got an apology from the city of Ottawa after a lifeguard at the local pool told her to cover up while breastfeeding.

Here in Salt Lake, KSL Newsradio will be talking about the topic on the Nightside Project. One of my college buddies is a host and he's asked me to come on and talk about this from a mother's perspective. I'm not an expert or a lactation consultant. But I am a mom and with my little breastfeeding project, I've been talking to a lot of other moms about this. Hopefully, I can help show that breastfeeding is a totally normal and natural thing. And that breastfeeding mothers should be supported and encouraged, not harassed.

Wish me luck! And call in if you want to weigh in on the issue. You can listen at 102.7 FM or 1160 AM. I should be able to post a link to the podcast tomorrow.

crab apple tree blossoms

I still haven't even glanced at photos from our trip. Plus I have a few breastfeeding photo sessions to edit too. Hopefully I'll get some good editing time in the next couple days. In the mean time, here are some pics of the crab apple tree in our backyard from last week. All the blossoms are pretty much gone now, but they sure were pretty while they lasted.

home again

We went to Vegas for the weekend to see my sister and some of Jared's family. Got home last night and have lots of catching up to do. Photos... blogging... cleaning!  Right now though I need to do a little Hypnobabies and probably take a nap. I'll be back.

21 months

I forgot to mention that my baby is now 21 months old (and has been for a couple weeks now). He's finally starting to catch on to this whole speaking English thing. It seems like every day we can understand a new word. I think his favorite word is "outside". He loves being outside playing in the dirt. He's also become quite the mama's boy. He's going through a very attached to me stage. I definitely love all the hugs and snuggles I get, but I do feel bad that Jared doesn't get them as often.  Regardless, he delights us daily with is sense of humor, strong opinions, and happy nature.

32 weeks

Its been four weeks since I took a belly shot. I kept forgetting when I was actually dressed and it was light outside. I am definitely feeling pregnant these days and getting excited to NOT be pregnant anymore. I don't feel that hindered by the size of my belly, but I've been having some really annoying pain in my groin, which I never had with Asher. I guess its probably my ligaments stretching or something. Whatever it is, its not fun and makes getting around harder. AND Baby Miriam is still breech. If she hasn't turned by next week at my appointment, I'm going to go see a chiropractor. Say some prayers that she'll get head down soon!

"at mother's breast" linked by kellymom.com

I just found out that the KellyMom.com facebook page linked to At Mother's Breast. How cool is that?! There are lots of comments there and lots of "likes" about the blog. KellyMom.com has over 12,000 followers on facebook. The website is probably the best resource for breastfeeding info on the web. I'm so glad this little project of mine is catching on!
